AJHSS (Amar Jyoti Higher Secondary School) was established in B.S. 2037/1979 A.D. as a branch, “KHA” of Shree Gyanodaya Secondary School, Bafal, Kalimati-13. Amar Jyoti began with a dream three decades and three years ago. Amar Jyoti means enlightenment forever. Late Mr. Khadga Bahadur Roka, Late Mr. Harsha Bahadur Budhathoki, Late Mr. Dev Charndra K.C. and Mr. Raj Kumar Panta translated this vision into reality in 2037 B.S./1979 AD corresponding to 1980 in the English calendar as the branch, “Kha” of Shree Gyanodaya Secondary School, at Syuchatar Gau Panchayat, ward no. 1, Kathmandu.
Likewise, it established independent institution as Amar Jyoti Pre- Primary School at Syuchatar VDC-5, in 1984. Under the dynamic supervision, untiring efforts, care and dedication of its Founder Principals, Mr. Damodar Budhathoki, late Mr. Tarak Bahadur Panta, late Mrs. Subhadra Basnet (Acting Principal) and Mr. Sundar Panta, it continually upgraded itself --- into a Primary School in 1988, Lower Secondary School in 1989 before finally blossoming into a full-fledged Secondary School in 1999. The School produced its first SLC graduates in 2000. What started as Amar Jyoti Pre-Primary School as the branch of Shree Gyanodaya Secondary School in 1980 today stands tall as a full-fledged Higher Secondary School at Syuchatar, Kathmandu, Nepal, that goes by the name: Amar Jyoti Higher Secondary School as well as AJ College.
