Introduction

Affiliated to Tribhuvan University, the Department of Major Arts offers a Bachelor Degree in Major Arts which is a four-year program. The department offers three choices for the students to pursue their Bachelor of Arts and they are:
      ⦁    Major English and Major Social Work
      ⦁    Major English and Major Journalism and Mass Communication
      ⦁    Major Social Work and Major Psychology. 

Major English courses for the four-year BA in English encompasses and enhances developing students’ foundational knowledge of English literature per se, critical tradition, and interpretive practices. These courses help inculcate in them a spirit of inquiry, broadening their horizon of understanding and sharpen their critical thinking, and an aesthetic taste for appreciating literature, besides improving their communicative, analytical, research, and writing skills.

The students at St. Xavier’s College acquire in-depth knowledge of current global trends in English Studies. After the completion of the BA course in English, the students are expected to be able to provide a broad understanding of English literature, including lateral thinking for reading and writing critically about it. They will also be able to embrace and appreciate the core humanistic values like integrity, empathy, and respect for differences and cultural studies with researching, communicating, and problem-solving skills.
